Beginning in 2014, many individuals and families will be eligible to receive financial assistance to reduce health insurance costs through the new Affordable Care Act if they are not eligible for Medicare, Medicaid or the Children's Health Insurance Program and are not offered affordable coverage through their employer. Nearly 500,000 Coloradans are eligible for a new kind of tax credit to lower the cost of health insurance. If you are an individual earning between $15,856 and $45,960 a year, a couple earning between $21,404 and $62,040 a year or a family of four earning between $32,499 and $94,200 a year you may qualify for a break on your monthly premiums. You may also be eligible for health plans with lower co-pays and deductibles, based on income. You can no longer be denied health insurance, even if you have had a serious illness or a pre-existing condition. Open enrollment is October 1, 2013 through March 31, 2014.
